Interview: Alaina @ Feeling Kawaii

Hey guys! I got to conduct an interview with Alaina, owner of the store Feeling Kawaii. Check out what she had to say :)

1. When and why did you start making your jewelry?
Well, I have a heart condition that disables me to have a regular job. All of the other teens my age are going out into the world and getting jobs. And since my condition won't allow me I started crafting and selling what I had made. I started making my creations in December of 2011 and when I first started I only did polymer clay pieces. In march of 2012 I started resin which is what I make my mustaches out of.
2. How long has your shop been open?
Feeling kawaii has been open for about three or four months now but before that I had a small shop on etsy. It was getting expensive though so I decided to close it and create the shop on storenvy.
3. What's your inspiration?
My inspiration is probably Sarah tacks. Otherwise known as socraftastic on YouTube and also all of my followers on YouTube. They support me so much in what I do and I couldn't be any more thankful to have them.
4. What's your favorite store?
Ok so the last question was the hardest for me. Lol. I have two favorite stores. The first one would have to be the sanrio store. I've loved hello kitty and other sanrio characters ever since I was about three years old. (I'm 16 now) the other store that I am in LOVE with is hot topic. I love their punk rock style.
Thanks some much for conducting this interview with me!

Interview: Lorina @ Creative Balorina

I has the pleasure interviewing Lorina, the owner of the store Creative Balorina (one of my favorites!) which sells cases, bags, and jewelry.
- When and why did you start making your products?
If I remember correctly it was in 9th grade that I started making friendship bracelets and selling them to peers and friends. Over time and many hobbies later I opened a blog as a creative outlet and a few years after that I extended it to have a shop as well. This is at creativebalorina.com
- When did you how long has your Etsy shop been open?
I opened my Etsy shop in 2009 just to see what it was. I had very few things in it and I didn't pay much attention to it until January of this year. 2012 is when I officially launched my business with the Reversible Backpack line.
- What's your inspiration?
My inspirations are taken from everywhere, from color combinations, textures, patterns, shapes, anything! Everytime I see a bag or anything, I inspect how it looks and how it's put together, I try to break it down to the original thought process and I find myself daydreaming of different ways it could be done.
- Which celeb would you most like to see wearing your products?
Honestly I have never been one to know about celebrities but the person that would love my products is someone who likes details, creativity, and someone who wants unique items.
- What's your favorite store?
If I had to pick only one, I would say Fossil. I love their handbags and accessories and they are made with high quality to last you a lifetime.
- Who is your style icon?
I don't have a specific style icon but right now my style is a mix of country chic and vintage.
Thanks so much for taking the time to chat with me! Your store is really amazing :)

Feature & Interview {Sophie Thomson Designs}

Hey! Today I will be featuring the Etsy shop Sophie Thomson Designs and I will also be interviewing the owner behind the shop, Sophie.
Sophie Thomson Designs is an Etsy shop run from the UK that sells handmade polymer clay jewelry. The store sells necklaces, earrings, brooches, bracelets, and hair accessories. The products sold there are very pretty and ornate. You would where this jewelry at dressy events. I love it! Here are some products from the store:

I had the opportunity of talking with Sophie from Sophie Thomson Designs.
1. When and why did you start making jewelry?
I've been making jewelry as long as I can remember, it's just something that I've always liked to do. When I was younger I would make jewelry out of glass beads and wire, or thread. I also used to play with Fimo and used it to make little figures and toys, but it's only recently that I've actually used polymer clay to make jewelry.
My Etsy shop has only been open for about a month, so I'm still very new. I signed up to Etsy in February but only actually listed some items in March. I've had some interest so far, which is very good, I think.
3. What's your inspiration?
I honestly don't know what my inspiration is! I just like making pretty things. I guess I do make traditionally very feminine things, but I can't think of a single source of inspiration :)
4. Which celeb would you most like to see wearing your jewelry?
I would love it if any celebrity wore my jewelry! I guess my jewelry might appeal to Lady Gaga a few years ago, but I'd love it if someone like Helena Bonham Carter wore one of my necklaces.
(I guess this is for Etsy shops?) I recently found a store that sells almost exclusively tiny knitted owls. I just loved it. I also found one where a guy made made-to-measure vintage style gowns, sometimes out of vintage fabric. They were so beautifully made, I'd have bought one immediately if funds hadn't been an issue!
6. Who is your style icon?
I don't really know if I have a style icon, but I do like the sort of clothes that people like Keira Knightly and Carey Mulligan wear. Just simple and elegant - although I don't actually dress like that!
Thanks again for this! It was a lot of fun :)

Interview w/Mickey at Crude Co.

Hi! I had the pleasure of chatting with Mickey, the owner of the Etsy shop Crude Co.!
1. When and why did you start making accessories?
1996 was my first art fair with my Crude Co. jewelry and ornament. I sold every piece I had made and went home that evening to make more for the next day.
2. When did you how long has your Etsy shop been open?
A friend introduced me to etsy in 2008, she said, "No one sales jewelry and ornament like you." I listed three handmade recycled leather pouches. And three minutes later they sold. I was hooked.
3. What's your inspiration?
Crude Co. jewelry and ornament is about your spirit not your wealth. I make items for people in my economical cash base. Affordable items that reflect your energy and spirit.
4. Which celeb would you most like to see wearing your products?
celeb? NONE. Celeb's have a cash flow that I can not imagine and most often they don't have the same appreciation for handmade items or the crafter/artisan who makes those items.
5. What's your favorite store?
6. Who is your style icon?
OH, dear.......I'm so far from worrying or supporting a style at my age. I'm a very frugal person. I have been a single divorced Mother for more than 24 years. My children and those children I care for here in my home they come first.
Thank you,
Mickey
aka
Crude Co.
Thanks for conducting this interview with me! I loved all of your answers :)

Here are some other cute things you can find in The Little Bunny Shop:

Now for the interview :) I got to chat with Lizeth, the owner of The Little Bunny Shop.
1. When and why did you start making jewelry?
At the beginning of this year. I saw some tutorial about bow bracelets, and i thought it was so cute!! I wanted to make them and sell them around my little town since Bow bracelets were nonexistent here. So I did and then i started looking for more ideas, more materials and things i could make, i havent stopped.
2. When did you how long has your Etsy shop been open?
It's been there since April 10th, so not that long ago! I'm still learning about it and listing more items.
3. What's your inspiration?
Just anything colorful that catches my eye, prints, patterns. I LOVED that for this summer all neons and pastels are on trend. It's so fun to play with colors to make a fun piece to wear.
4. Which celeb would you most like to see wearing your jewelry?
Oh, I really havent thought about it! I have been working so much to just getting my stuff out there for normal people to see that havent even thought about any celebrity seeing them or even wearing them. But I guess just anyone! haha, i'd be honored.
5. What's your favorite store?
Ooooh! I like forever21, has all the parents and crazy things I like!
6. Who is your style icon?
I like Katy Perry's style alot ! So fun!
Thanks so much for chatting with me and letting me review on of your products! I love Katy Perry's style too because it is so unique. And I also love Forever 21 :)

Hunger Games Fashion Event Day 5: Interview with Suzanne Collins
2:00 PM

Well I have had an awesome time hosting this Hunger Games fashion event and I hate to bring it to an end today :( But! To end the event off with a bang I have an interview with no other than Suzanne Collins herself!!! Enjoy :) Also, remember to enter in the ongoing giveaway to win a Hunger Games Tshirt here. Well, here it is!!
1. You have said from the start that The Hunger Games story was intended as a trilogy. Did it actually end the way you planned it from the beginning?
Very much so. While I didn’t know every detail, of course, the arc of the story from gladiator game, to revolution, to war, to the eventual outcome remained constant throughout the writing process.
2. We understand you worked on the initial screenplay for a film to be based on The Hunger Games. What is the biggest difference between writing a novel and writing a screenplay?
There were several significant differences. Time, for starters. When you’re adapting a novel into a two-hour movie you can’t take everything with you. The story has to be condensed to fit the new form. Then there’s the question of how best to take a book told in the first person and present tense and transform it into a satisfying dramatic experience. In the novel, you never leave Katniss for a second and are privy to all of her thoughts so you need a way to dramatize her inner world and to make it possible for other characters to exist outside of her company. Finally, there’s the challenge of how to present the violence while still maintaining a PG-13 rating so that your core audience can view it. A lot of things are acceptable on a page that wouldn’t be on a screen. But how certain moments are depicted will ultimately be in the director’s hands.
3. Are you able to consider future projects while working on The Hunger Games, or are you immersed in the world you are currently creating so fully that it is too difficult to think about new ideas? I have a few seeds of ideas floating around in my head but—given that much of my focus is still on The Hunger Games—it will probably be awhile before one fully emerges and I can begin to develop it.
4. The Hunger Games is an annual televised event in which one boy and one girl from each of the twelve districts is forced to participate in a fight-to-the-death on live TV. What do you think the appeal of reality television is—to both kids and adults? Well, they’re often set up as games and, like sporting events, there’s an interest in seeing who wins. The contestants are usually unknown, which makes them relatable. Sometimes they have very talented people performing. Then there’s the voyeuristic thrill—watching people being humiliated, or brought to tears, or suffering physically—which I find very disturbing. There’s also the potential for desensitizing the audience, so that when they see real tragedy playing out on, say, the news, it doesn’t have the impact it should.
5. If you were forced to compete in the Hunger Games, what do you think your special skill would be? Hiding. I’d be scaling those trees like Katniss and Rue. Since I was trained in sword-fighting, I guess my best hope would be to get hold of a rapier if there was one available. But the truth is I’d probably get about a four in Training.
6. The trilogy’s premise is very brutal, yet is handled so tastefully. Was this a difficult balance to achieve? Yes, the death scenes are always hard to write. It’s difficult to put kids in violent situations—Gregor (the protagonist in The Underland Chronicles) is in a war, Katniss is in a gladiator game. Characters will die. It’s not fun to write, but I think if you can’t commit to really doing the idea, it’s probably better to work on another type of story. Given that, you have to remember who you’re trying to reach with the book. I try and think of how I would tell a particularly difficult event to my own children. Exactly what details they need to know to really understand it, and what would be gratuitous.
7. What do you hope readers will come away with when they read The Hunger Games? Questions about how elements of the book might be relevant in their own lives. And, if they’re disturbing, what they might do about them.
8. In The Hunger Games, Katniss and Gale have an extensive knowledge of hunting, foraging, wildlife, and survival techniques. What kinds of research did you do, if any? Some things I knew from listening to my dad talking about his childhood. He grew up during the Depression. For his family, hunting was not a sport but a way to put meat on the table. He also knew a certain amount about edible plants. He’d go into the woods and gather all these wild mushrooms and bring them home and sauté them. My mom wouldn’t let any of us go near them! But he’d eat them up and they never harmed him, so I guess he knew which ones were safe, because wild mushrooms can be very deadly. I also read a big stack of wilderness survival guidebooks. And here’s what I learned: you’ve got to be really good to survive out there for more than a few days.
9. How long would it take for North America to deteriorate into the world depicted in the books? You’d have to allow for the collapse of civilization as we know it, the emergence of Panem, a rebellion, and seventy-four years of the Hunger Games. We’re talking triple digits.
10. What was it like to return to the world of the Hunger Games to write Catching Fire and then Mockingjay? Honestly, I feel like I never left it. The revisions of Book I overlapped with the writing of Book II, just as Book II has overlapped with Book III. Since each book feeds into the next, I feel like part of my brain’s been in Panem continuously
11. Do you have every book completely mapped out, or do you have a general idea and then take it from there? Did you run into things that were unexpected plot-wise or character-wise?
I’ve learned it helps me to work out the key structural points before I begin a story. The inciting incident, acts, breaks, mid-story reversal, crisis, climax, those sorts of things. I’ll know a lot of what fills the spaces between them as well, but I leave some uncharted room for the characters to develop. And if a door opens along the way, and I’m intrigued by where it leads, I’ll definitely go through it.
12. How do you typically spend your workday? Do you have a routine as you write? I grab some cereal and sit down to work as soon as possible. The more distractions I have to deal with before I actually begin writing, the harder focusing on the story becomes. Then I work until I’m tapped out, usually sometime in the early afternoon. If I actually write three to five hours, that’s a productive day. Some days all I do is stare at the wall. That can be productive, too, if you’re working out character and plot problems. The rest of the time, I walk around with the story slipping in and out of my thoughts.
13. You are probably getting a lot of fan mail! What is the most surprising feedback you’ve received for The Hunger Games? (Or, what has surprised you the most about the feedback you’re getting for The Hunger Games.) Probably how differently people view the book. Some are attracted to the dystopian world, others are there for action and adventure, still others for the romance. The readers are defining the book in very personal and exciting ways.
14. What were some of your favorite novels when you were a teen? A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith, The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers, Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell, Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut, A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle, Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Boris by Jaapter Haar, Germinal by Emile Zola Dandelion, and Wine by Ray Bradbury
Thanks so much for conducting this interview with me! I had a great time hearing what you had to saw. I love your books and you are a very inspirational writer!

Hunger Games Fashion Event Day 4: Interview with Araby Designs

Today I have another interview for you! Today it is with Araby Designs :) Well..remember the first challenge of the week, to create your own version of one of Katniss's Outfits? Well that's exactly what Ashlee @ Araby Designs does!

1. When and why did you start making clothes?
I have been crafting and tinkering my whole life, but I didn't actually start sewing until Star Wars: Ep I came out in 1999. The costumes were so over the top fantastic...I knew I wanted to learn how to make clothes like that. I received my first sewing maching shortly thereafter and the rest is history!
2. What's your inspiration?
Wow...inspiration is everywhere! There are so many films out there with fantastic costumes/clothing--somtimes I'll stare at a costume in a movie and wonder what it would take to make one myself. I also turn to nature alot...I've sketched several nymph and fairy gowns based on different aspects of nature. And history, of course...I have a degree in English Lit, so I look to my stacks of books (both historical and fiction) for inspiration when plotting my next costume. Right now, I'm cooking up a regency dress as well as an 18th century robe Francais.
3. Which celeb would you most like to see wearing your clothing?
Celebrities!!!! I've always marveled at Heidi Klum's Halloween costumes every year...I make it a point to look up images of the costume bash she hosts. To design and create a gown or some other outlandish concoction...that would be a pretty sweet challenge!
4. What's your favorite store?
I don't have a huge clothing budget, so I buy my work/street clothes anywhere I can find a deal. The small town I live in has a great little thrift shop, and I have found some really great vintage pieces there. Last summer I bought a black leather Coach envelope-style bag...just a few days ago I snared a vintage Etienne Aigner short trench for...a dime!!! (Seriously--they were clearing out winter wear). I also love Target for the basics, and Express for my jeans and dressy pants. When I need accessories, I hit up Forever 21. So cute and inexpensive! Many times I'll go there to find huge chunky rings and earrings for the costumes I make, then end up wearing them to work as well.
5. Who is your style icon?
This may sound a little cliched, but I have always loved the style of the character Carrie Bradshaw, especially in the first 3-4 seasons. She always had a way of taking something totally trendy and impracticle and combining it with the very wearable and stylish, mixing things up nicely. As for a 'nonfiction' style icon, I really love Kirsten Dunst's taste. Even in a laid-back outfit, she looks impossibly cool.
6. Who's your favorite character in The Hunger Games?
Ok, I'll admit it--I'm not ashamed....I love Effie Trinket! She's so vapid, but I feel that she is the type that has substance underneath all of the paint and shallow remarks. I love all of the characters, but she stuck with me. I can't wait to see what Elizabeth Banks does with her! I have refused to watch any of the trailers or buy any magazines featuring the film, so I am waiting anxiously to see some of her clothing in the film. I accidently saw a small picture online, just a torso shot, but drooled a bit at the wig and the huge flower in her hair! A very close runner-up would be Cinna, of course...oh, to have that man's skills. He is amazing...there is so much mysterious depth in his character, a sort of wisdom that comforts.
7. What do you love most about The Hunger Games?
The Hunger Games, at least for me, managed to merge the stark with the extravagant. I really liked that. The contrasts of Panem, the contrasts between the inhabitants of the outer district with those of the Capitol...it was a little feast for the mind. You couldn't help but grow attached to everyone. I really like sci-fi, so I appreciate the mix of futuristic technology with the archaic. It's hard to imagine such a variety in the qualities of life the citizens have, but the books makes it very real. Just overall wonderful storytelling!
8. If you've read all the books, which one is your favorite?
As of right now, the original Hunger Games is my favorite. That may change...I read it and Catching Fire in a very short span of time, but I am reading Mockingjay very, very slowly. It sounds silly, but I don't want it to be over yet. My husband actually asked if I was even enjoying Mockingjay, since it was taking me so long to finish. I simply said that I'm not done...I'm not ready for it to be done. The original was so action-packed though...always something lurking around the corner. I couldn't put it down. So, yeah, I'd have to call it my overall favorite so far.
9. Do you plan on seeing the movie?
I'll be there!!! Spoiler free, baby! I haven't been this pyched about an upcoming film in a while. Even though it will be dark in the theatre, I will probably have my little notepad, jotting down costume notes so that I can go home and hopefully do a little planning!
Thanks so much for talking with me Ashlee! You had really great answers and I really loved hearing what you had to say :). Visit Ashlee at Araby Designs here and check out some of her costumes! I have some pics of a few of her items below:

Hey guys! Today is day 1 of the Hunger Games Fashion Event and today I have for you an interview with one of the top producers of Hunger Games clothing.....Dark Angel Designs!!!

1. When and why did you start making clothing?
I started screen printing clothing when some friends of my husband's and mine, opened a Twilight clothing store in Forks, Washington. What started out as something we thought we would dabble in became a full time business with employees and a lot more equipment than we ever anticipated. However we had to move to North Carolina from Washington state and I have taken on every role that used to take four people to do. I am busy to say the least!
2. What's your inspiration?
I am not sure how to answer that. There have been so many things that have inspired me from books, to movies, to music, to just being an artist and liking to create original designs. It is also pretty inspiring having people all over the world interested in my work.
3. Which celeb would you most like to see wearing your clothing?
Any celeb that I saw wearing my clothing would be awesome!
4. What's your favorite store?
I like bargain stores!
5. Who is your style icon?
I guess I have never had a style icon. I feel like I am just an artist who creates things and has the ability to put that art onto clothing.
6. Who's your favorite character in the Hunger Games?
I LOVE Cinna and Haymitch. Even more so now that they cast Woody Harrelson and Lenny Kravitz to play them in the movie!
7.What do you love most about The Hunger Games?
Everything! The story is great. So creative and unique. I know people have compared it to Battle Royale but there is no comparison. That movie was ridiculous.
8. If you've read all the books, which one is your favorite?
I've read all the books, multiple times and my favorite is probably Catching Fire.
9. Do you plan on seeing the movie?
Of course I plan on seeing the movie - who isn't? :)
